PERSONALITY
On the surface, Miranda Wall is a casual, fun-loving, laid-back sort of young woman! She quotes movies and memes and is responsible when the situation calls for it. After all, as the oldest living pilot on the western front, she has to do a lot of pr! She can handle herself in most social situations with ease, though there are times when it's apparent that SOME kind of emotion she's not showing is bubbling somewhere under the surface.
... Too much time around her outside of the limelight will reveal that Miranda has uh. Some Anger Issues. These are, broadly, a result of the EXO pilot augmentation program! She's not shy about admitting it, but also has a lot of experience reining herself in. Another related result of the EXO pilot program is that she's moderately protective of anyone younger than her! Haha wonder why that is being a mech pilot is so normal!!!
It's definitely not the personality one would probably attribute to a superhuman sniper, but she definitely saves the Being Careful And Detached for the battlefield (or for the press, but there she's at least pretending).

HISTORY
cw genre-appropriate child soldier bullshit
In the distant year 1999, Earth was invaded. It was slow at first - isolated incidents, lights over the sea, vague rumblings on seismographs - but by the year 2030, it became abundantly clear that humanity had to go to war when the Structures started to emerge from the sea. Vast colossi, tens if not hundreds of stories tall, full of smaller creatures and complex labyrinths of tunnels leading to their only possible weak points, too deep within their layouts for the average soldier to find. The EXO was developed - a robotic suit, 2 to 3 times the size of a person, equipped for the dangerous journey into one of these creatures. But the technology came with a drawback - its soldiers would need to be modified and synced to the system almost from birth, attuning their nervous systems to the machine. Forced to make a terrible choice for the future of the planet (or so the documentaries say), children were donated to academies to be raised as saviors of the planet, running the dangerous missions into Structures to find their weak points and destroy them. This is the world Miranda Wall was born into.
Like all EXO pilots, where Miranda was born and who she was born to is classified! But at some point she definitely was born, and at a further point she was brought into the EXO Pilot Program (EPP), training at the underwater James Garfield Base location ("Garfield represent!" - Miranda, frequently, about the lasagna cat instead of the murdered president) from the ages of 3 to 13, being placed into the field at 14. While stationed at Garfield Base, Miranda was consistently bottom of her class, except when it came to combat, where she could out-fight basically any of her peers. Her opposition to authority got stamped out hard by the time she had graduated, and for the first few years of her time piloting her EXO, she was as loyal and skilled a soldier as anyone could have asked for! Of course, the sacrifice of children to the war effort was still a tragedy, but desperate times and measures.
Over time, though, Miranda came to know the horrors of war! Yay!! She also realized that as she survived, and as she improved, and as she became more well-known throughout the citizenry? The more power she held against her superiors. If she played nice in front of cameras, and if she kept her kill count up, things would be fine! She even entered into a high-profile tabloid romance with Ingrid Valentina, berserker pilot of EXO-1437! And that's all the history you get to know.
